This is yet another Belje’s red wine of a deep ruby color and medium density. We take particular pride in Frankovka, as this is an indigenous Central European sort that has been grown in Baranya and Slavonia since centuries.

Belje’s Quality Frankovka exhibits a pronounced fruity and soft, yet spicy character with elements of black pepper and a touch of smoke from large wooden barrels.

Gastronomic recommendation

This fruity and elegant wine, so typical of and important for the Danube Basin, should be served with the main food product of Eastern Croatia: pork in all possible ways. From čobanac to grilled cutlets or pork loin stuffed with some premium rich cheese and wrapped in bacon.

Quality Frankovka works well with smoke and any type of barbeque is the right combination with this wine.

Belje’s wine cellar in the centre of Kneževi Vinogradi is an example of a “gator”, a kind of wine cellar typical of Baranja, cast horizontally into a loess hill. With its first mention dating way back to 1526, the wine cellar is of enormous historical value for the entire region. This protected medieval locality is one of Baranja’s most important tourist destinations, open to visitors year-round. The guided tour of the cellar takes visitors through all three floors, filled with Slavonian oak barrels in which carefully selected Belje wines are maturing.
